Bob was born December 8, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. Bob received his Bachelor of Science in geology from the University of Michigan in 1959. After a brief employment with Seismic Explorations in Houston, TX, Bob joined the United States Air Force. His entire 20 year military career was associated with the B-52, as an aircraft crew member, instructor, evaluator and administrator. His military career culminated as Chief, Defensive Systems Branch, Barksdale Air Force Base, LA. Major Richter was a member of the Strategic Air Command and completed over 100 Southeast Asia combat sorties. He was a member of the B-52 5,000 hour club.
After retiring from the military, Bob received his Master of Science from East Texas State University and began teaching math and science with Richardson ISD, Dallas ISD and St John's Episcopal School of Dallas. In 1996, Bob retired to pursue his interests - reading, listening to classical music, and studying philosophy, specifically Nietzsche and existentialism. During the week, he avidly followed the stock market and, on the weekends, you might spot him at an occasional horse race. He often told his wife of 45 years, "Janet, you are the best winner I ever picked"! Bob was a life member of MENSA and also a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, First United Methodist Church Dallas, the Doubl-Airs class, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Dallas Opera, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Bob was also extremely passionate about traveling the world. He visited every state in the US except North Dakota. He and Janet traveled extensively to over 50 countries.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph Frank Richter and Beatrice Cervenka Richter and his sister, Janie Van Der Tuuk. He is survived by his wife, Janet Karrenbrock Richter. Other survivors include 6 nieces and 1 nephew: Stacy Van Der Tuuk Benson, Julie Van Der Tuuk Tsigos, Jeff Van Der Tuuk, Analee Karrenbrock Griffin, Ellen Karrenbrock Rose, Nanette Karrenbrock Blacklock, and Laura Karrenbrock Elia.
