Robert Fulton Newhouse, Jr., was born January 9, 1950, in Longview, Texas, to parents Robert Fulton Newhouse Sr., and Mattie B. Jones Newhouse, who both preceded him in his homegoing. Robert graduated from Galilee High School in 1968, after which he attended the University of Houston, having earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. He later went on to earn his Masters degree in Mathematics from the University of Dallas.
Robert was a standout football player for the Houston Cougars where he still holds the university’s single-season rushing record (1,757 yards). Upon compeletion of his academic and sports careers at the University of Houston, Robert would be selected in the second round of the 1972 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys Football organization. At the end of his first season with the Dallas Cowboys, he married his long-time sweetheart Nancy Johnson, whom he met when he was 12-years old, and she remained by his side until his homegoing. Upon concluding a 12-year career as a player for the Dallas Cowboys, which he completed in 1983, he went on to work for the Dallas Cowboys Football organization another 17 years. In conjunction with his work with the Dallas Cowboys, Robert was also a successful United States Bankruptcy Trustee; a position and acheivement he was very proud of and served with great dignity and honor for 26 years.
His union to Nancy produced two sons, Roddrick Newhouse (Cicily) and Reginald Newhouse, and twin daughters, Dawnyel Newhouse and Shawntel Coy (Eugene), who have all survived him. Along with his immediate family, three grandchildren, Cailyn Newhouse, Camryn Newhouse, and Kennedi Coy also survive Robert. He also leaves to cherish his memory, brothers Arthur Newhouse (Von) and Albert Newhouse (Brenda); three sisters Jeannette Cook, Juanita Newhouse Johnson, Merline Ingram, a niece who lives with the family, Camish Parrish, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and fans.
Mr. Newhouse will lie in state from Tuesday, July 29, 2014 through Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Friends may call at their convenience. A public visitation and viewing will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 7-8 o’clock p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may express condolences personally to the family during this time. The Funeral Service for Mr. Newhouse will be held at 11 o’clock a.m., Friday, August 1, 2014 at Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 West Park Blvd., Plano, Texas 75093. A public reception will follow at the church.
