He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and a member of the Agape Bible Class of Prestonwood Baptist Church of Plano. Robert served in the Amphibious Forces of The United States Navy in WWII. He received the Purple Heart for gunshot wounds received in action in the landings of the Marines on the Islands of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, the last two battles of the Pa-cific War with Japan. Robert retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company with 40 years of Service. The title he held at retirement from Southwestern Bell was Staff Supervision of Buildings.
Robert’s memories will be cherished by his loving sister Melba Crain; children; Larry (wife, Jan) Newberry, Paul (wife, Christy) Newberry, and Suzanne Newberry Dekker; grandchildren, Chris (wife, Meghan) Newberry, Jennifer Dekker, and Jessica (husband, Nic) Dekker Hottman; great grandchildren, Grant, Alice, and Chase Newberry.
He was preceded in death by his parents (Robert and Ruth Newberry), his brothers (Ivan, Johnny and David Newberry), his sister (Kathryn Montgomery) and his lovely wife (Dorothy Newberry) of 59 years.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Spark-man/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
