Robert Herman Mitchell passed away at age 82 on February 27, 2019 after a battle with cancer. For over 40 years he owned and managed his shopping center at the SW corner of Preston Road and Royal Lane. While attending Hillcrest High School he won perhaps the only District and Bi-District in school history. Robert lettered twice.
Robert had a long career in construction, beginning as a kid in his father’s residential buildings. After receiving a Civil Engineering degree from RICE University, he served as a US Navy Civil Engineer Corp Officer at NAS Corpus Christi.
For about 30 years, Robert and wife Kay sailed the Eastern Caribbean as mom & pop sailboat cruisers- logging time together on their 44’ Gulfstar cutter, and later their 54’ Gulfstar ketch. They found time to sail for 6 months in Venezuela before Chavez, and twice to the East Coast to Maine and back via the Chesapeake.
Robert is survived by his wife Kay, three children, seven grandchildren, and his sister Sandra Travis.
The family invites you to join them for a celebration of Robert's life at their home 10846 Crooked Creek Court, Dallas, TX on Saturday, March 16th, from 12pm to 2pm.
