Robert Lee Miers was born in Dallas, Texas, February 23, 1943, and passed away one day after his 80th birthday on February 24, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born to Sally Grace Richardson Miers and Harris Wood Miers, Sr., Robert was the third of their five children. Known by many as Bob or Bobby, Robert will always be remembered by his family and friends as a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and genuine friend.
Robert’s belief in God, taught by his mother, and love of people fueled his desire to encourage and help others. His mother’s teachings also led to his wanting to learn and succeed. Robert enjoyed simple pleasures such as reading, fishing, shopping and dining. More than anything, he loved the Lord and enjoyed relationships with his family and friends that he built over a lifetime.
Growing up in Dallas, Robert attended Hillcrest High School with his siblings. He attended a number of institutions to further his education. In the middle of his life, he decided to deepen his education achieving a Bachelor of Science in Ministry and Leadership from Dallas Christian College.
Robert had many titles throughout his career. He was an entrepreneur in an automobile business, a furniture business and in real estate. At different times in his life, Robert was a pilot, a teacher and a worker with FEMA to support victims of natural disaster. He was passionate about giving back through volunteering and he contributed to many organizations. He especially treasured his work with the Coalition of Churches and the Dallas Life Foundation, where he worked with his beloved friend Reverend Ike Johnson and delivered Bibles and supplies to prisoners. In addition, for nearly two decades he was known as “The Sandwich Man”, bringing over 100 sandwiches each Sunday to hand out after church to those on the streets of Dallas who were hungry.
Robert met and married Vicki Lynne Garrick, and both were committed to raising their beloved daughter, Elizabeth Ellan Miers Morgan, and Vicki’s eldest daughter, Genevieve Chaitra Garick . He was also blessed to have an older daughter, Deborah Kaylyn Beaudoin, with whom he had a close, loving relationship. Later in life he met Marilyn Elizabeth Patrick, fell in love and celebrated 18 rewarding years of marriage before his death.
Robert is preceded in death by his father and mother, Harris Wood Miers, Sr. and Sally Grace Richardson Miers, his sister Catherine Miers Zurier and his brother, Harris Wood Miers, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn Elizabeth Miers, daughter Elizabeth Miers Morgan, son-in-law Thomas David Morgan and their children Alexander Thomas, Katherine Mildred and Evelyn Grace; Vicki’s daughter Chaitra Garrick, Deborah Kaylyn Beaudoin and her daughter Madeleine Kaylyn Hamilton (Parker); his siblings Harriet Ellan Miers and Jeb Stuart Miers (Elizabeth); Marilyn’s children Robert Wroblski, Jr. (Michelle), Suzanne Heake (Brian) and Julie Hansen (Eric); his nieces and nephews, all of Marilyn’s grandchildren and extended family, all of whom he cherished.
Robert believed everything good was a blessing from God and fought hard for every moment he could possibly have with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, he and his family would appreciate donations directed to M. D. Anderson, an institution whose doctors enabled his extended life and memories with family and friends and to which he was pleased to contribute.
Funeral mass will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 3rd, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
