Born in Des Moines, IA on December 28, 1935. Bob moved to Dallas in June 1969 with his wife and children. After a short illness, Bob passed away on November 21, 2014. He graduated from Dowling High School, Des Moines, IA in 1954. From there, he attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Drake University in 1958. Bob worked for the Iowa State Department of Agriculture as a chemist. Shortly thereafter he met and married the love of his life, Mary Anne. In 1963, they moved to Chicago, Illinois where they gave birth to their son James, and Bob worked for Alberto-Culver as their chief quality control chemist. Opportunity led Bob and his family to Minneapolis, MN in 1965 where he worked for Champion Packages (now Champion International) developing materials to protect MREs and for other applications. Soon after, his family expanded again as daughter Jennifer was born in 1967.
Four winters of heavy snows inspired the family to move south to Dallas, TX where Bob went to work for The Southland Corporation (7-Eleven retail stores) as an analytical chemist working on food, packaging and petroleum products. Bob retired in 1986 after seventeen years to pursue his love of woodcarving. Bob worked part-time as a chemist for Texas A&M University at Dallas Agriculture Experiment Station, Frito-Lay and Oryx Energy until fully retiring in 1992. Preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Agnes Markley, Des Moines, IA and his son, James, Dallas, TX. Survived by wife Mary Anne and daughter Jennifer, Carrollton, TX, sister Susan Markley Mount and brother-in-law James D. Mount, Johnston, IA, niece Teresa Mount Hull, Des Moines, IA, nephew Jeff Mount and his beloved pets Tony and Frankie. Memorial service Saturday, November 29, 2014, 10:00 am.
