Robert “Bo” Edward Hastings passed away on February 16, 2020 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He fought a brave and long battle and will be missed beyond words.
Bo was born in Mobile, Alabama on July 28, 1956 to Jessie and Marilyn Hastings. He was raised in Vidor, Texas and later relocated to the Dallas area where he graduated from Mesquite High School in 1974.
There is a lot that could be said about Bo: he was an avid motorcyclist, a free spirit, and he loved being in the wind. He was a “jack of all trades” that learned to do everything on his own; he even built his very own 1978 Shovelhead motorcycle with his own two hands. Throughout his life he shared countless adventures on the road with many friends, far too many to name.
Bo was also a beloved and dedicated printer and graphic artist at Lone Star Container Corp., where he worked for over 22 years. He was a family man that cherished spending time with his siblings and all of his wonderful nieces and nephews. He was an honorable man that kept his word and did whatever he could to help others. It was not uncommon to find him spending his spare time helping out around the neighborhood, even when he was feeling sick.
But perhaps the most important thing that can and should be said about Bo, is that he had a huge heart. He lived with a certain whole-hearted kindness, generosity, and humility that inspired others to be better, more compassionate, more gentle and more forgiving.
If you had the privilege of meeting Bo, he undoubtedly made an impression upon you. He had a coolness and sweetness about him that made him impossible to forget. He will be deeply and truly missed by many, many people.
Bo is survived by his wife Jane Hastings, son Doug Smith of Dallas, Texas, and daughter Tiffany Smith of Seattle, Washington. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Patricia (Jimmy) Swink of Wetumpka, Alabama, Phyllis (Bennie) Stewart of Bruce, Mississippi, Lynne (Joe) Harris of Victoria, Texas, Donna (Brian) Wright of Quitman, Texas, Vickie (David) Woody of Sachse, Texas, and beloved brothers, Jim (Cindy) Hastings of Colbert, Oklahoma, Eric Pierce of McKinney, Texas, Wade Pierce of Frisco, Texas, and many wonderful nieces and nephews, Jamie (Kristen) Hastings, Amy Hastings, Ernie (Rhonda) Garland, Jason Hastings, Mindie Pearson, Kaylie (Shane) Brown, Alan (Tabitha) Wright, Eric (Lanee) Wright, Michelle (Todd) Cooley, Joel (Trisha) Harris, and Morgan Pierce. Proceeded in death by his parents, a brother William Hastings, nehews Jimmy Culver Jr. and Jon Mark Culver.
