Born in Dallas, Texas on November 14, 1924 and passed away February 9, 2012. Preceded in death by his parents, Richard W. and Ona Sims; sister, Faye Gant and husband Fred. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Ethlyn Krecek Sims; son, Richard M. Sims, Jr.; daughter, Janet Daves and husband Ed; grandchildren; Laura Sims, Clark Daves and wife, Nadalee and Kent Daves; brother-in-law, Harold Krecek and wife Doris; sisters-in-law, Utiv Krecek, Jimmie Lou Krecek; very special nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Richard graduated from Wilmer- Hutchins HS in 1942 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. He served in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the USS Tulsa and retired from the Dallas Police Department after 28 years having proudly served as a Homicide and Robbery Detective, Badge # 629. Richard had a great love for the outdoors-making countless memories, gardening, hunting, fishing, and flying racing pigeons. He had a wonderful quick wit and sense of humor. And his deep love for his family and friends never went unnoticed. Richard was a “real piece of art”. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday, 2-12-12 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, 2-13-12 in the Grove Hill Chapel. Burial to follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
