Rebecca "Becky" Ann Gray of Dallas, Texas, peacefully passed away on February 27, 2025. She was 89 years old.
Becky was born on November 13, 1935, in McCrory, Arkansas to Alton and Carrie Wright. She was the third of 6 siblings who grew up farming cotton and rice. In her youth, Becky became known as "Sis". Sis was active in high school, playing basketball and cheerleading, and winning the honor of Homecoming Queen. Soon after graduating in 1954, Becky married her high school sweetheart, Dick Gray. Family legend tells a colorful story of their journey to Dallas where they put down roots, raising a family of four boys.
Dick and Becky joined First Baptist Church, Dallas over 65 years ago and faithfully served in the Primary (children's ministry) Department, Clarion Choir, and beyond. Becky's spiritual impact reached countless children and teens over the years, including a young Robert Jeffress (Pastor of First Baptist Dallas).
For decades, she had a very successful career in retail clothing as salesperson, buyer and manager of the boy's department at Culwell & Son Men's Clothing Store, touching even more lives with her love for Christ and His people. In retirement, she went on to be a devoted volunteer for Meals on Wheels, First Baptist Church, and her Independent Living Community. All her answered prayers and accomplishments were special to her, but not in comparison to her faith and her family. We are richly blessed to have had her as our Matriarch.
Becky is preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Carrie Wright; brothers, Donald and Lewis Wright; her beloved husband, Dick Gray; her first born son, Rick Gray; her great-granddaughter, Emelia Gray. She is survived by her children, Cherry Gray (Rick), Mike Gray (Debbie), Phil Gray (Amy), Andy Gray (Dawn); grandchildren, Heather Powell (Jeff), Michael Gray, Ben Gray (Hilary), Dick Gray (Sarah Beth), Roy Gray (Jackie), Ross Gray, Jordan Kennedy (Tom), Alicia Parker (Greg), Sally Helms (Zack), Emily Gray, Hannah Jensen (Dane), Katie Gray; great-grandchildren, Madi, Ashley, Garrett, Rebekah, Hazel, Ellowyn, Ella-Rose, Layla, Jack, Anniston, Lillian, Sydney, Glyn, Hadley, Scottie Jo; and her siblings, Linda Wright (Tom), Mike Wright (Dorothea), Carolyn Anderson.
A celebration of Becky's life will be held Friday, March 7, 2025, at 11:00am in Lavvorn Hall at First Baptist Church, downtown Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church Dallas, Children's Ministry.
