Randall George Goss of Dallas, Texas passed away on February 13, 2024. Randall was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, business innovator, community leader and dear friend. A lifelong Texan, Randall was raised in San Angelo, attended Southern Methodist University on a full athletic scholarship playing football for his favorite SMU Mustangs and graduated summa cum laude in Business Administration. He went on to start U.S. Risk Insurance Group in 1986, growing it from a single office to a leader in specialty insurance products with 18 domestic and international branches and a network of more than 6000 retail producers.
His imposing stature belied his warm and affectionate nature. He cared deeply for others and was involved with many Dallas charities, including the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, the Dallas Zoo, and The American Heart Association. Randall served on multiple philanthropic boards, including the Dallas Symphony Board of Governors for more than 20 years, and was honored by many for his involvement and steadfast dedication. His generous heart was equally matched with his creative spirit. He loved cooking for friends and family, collecting art, and entertaining with meticulous attention to detail. His weekend breakfasts and his “Gossaritas” were legendary.
Randall was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at SMU and maintained deep friendships with his SAE brothers. The SAE creed is “The True Gentleman” and Randall was genuinely the truest gentleman in every sense of the word. He prided himself on the bonds he made with others, feeling deep concern and appreciation for those in his life. He mentored many, found friendships among colleagues, loved his community, and positively impacted more people than he could have imagined. Even while he struggled privately, he loved openly and generously.
Randall is survived by his loving family: wife Kara Petersen Goss, his children Austin Goss and wife Amy of Dallas, Quinton Goss and wife Lindsay of Dallas, Brighton Sawa and husband Chad of Forney, and Kate Petersen attending college at Carnegie Mellon University. He was “Pop Pop” to five grandchildren, Brendan, Haddie, Blaise, Skye and Luca. Randall was a devoted big brother to two sisters, Scarlett Lewis and her husband John and Kathy Johnston and her husband Greg, and dear uncle to Whitney, Rex and Joy. He also leaves behind legions of lifelong friends from all stages of his life. His three dogs, Maisy, Walker and Bear will greatly miss being spoiled by his affection, ear scratches and generous food scraps.
A celebration of Randall’s life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation to Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center or the National Institute of Mental Health in Randall’s honor.
