Rafael Valdez Pio

Rafael Valdez Pio, age 71, of Dallas, Texas passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022. He was born on October 24, 1951 in Santa Rita, Estado de Michoacán, Mexico to his parents, Francisco D. Pio and Leonor M. Valdez. Rafael was raised in Sinagua, Tecario, and Michoacán.

He married the love of his life, Efigenia Cortes Garcia in 1981, and the couple had three children. Rafael had a strong work ethic and proudly took care of his family. In his younger days, he worked as a farmer and laborer, then later became a Forklift Driver for Standard Fruit and Vegetables, also known as Del Monte, for over 40 years.

In his spare time, Rafael loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed working on his vehicles and took pride keeping them in tip-top shape. His family will always remember him as a wonderful, happy, humble, friendly, sarcastic and funny man. He was generous and kind, and would give you the shirt off his back.

Rafael is preceded in death by his wife, Efigenia Pio. He is survived by his brother, Ignacio and wife, Antonia Pio of Dallas, Texas; only daughter, Maribel Ramirez Pio and husband, Victor of Denison, Texas; son, Sergio Pio and wife, Jessica of Howe, Texas; son, Rafael Pio, Jr. and wife, Cecily of McKinney, Texas; and 12 grandsons, and 1 granddaughter.

A visitation for Rafael will be held Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Grove Hill Funeral Home. His funeral service will occur Friday, December 9, 2022 from 10:30 am at St. Edward Catholic Parish, followed by a committal service at Grove Hill Funeral Home.
