Phillip Torres, 64, of Irving, TX, passed away in his sleep early morning on Friday July 28. He had not been feeling well and the fire department had been called to his residence the previous day due to his oxygen levels being low. He did not suffer or hurt in anyway, he simply went to sleep and his soul went to be with the Lord.
Phillip Torres was born in Dallas, TX on October 11, 1958 to Crespin and Josephine Torres. He attended North Dallas High school and was a proud Bulldog. He loved playing Pop Warner football and made lifelong friends from Rusk Jr high and Sam Houston elementary school. He had two beautiful girls with longtime close family friend Roseanna Jimenez from Thomas Jefferson “TJ” North Dallas. They maintained a close friendship all the way up until his passing and she considered Phillip her best friend.
Phillip Torres worked as driver for DART and for Dallas County Health and Human services. He helped with the running campaign of Senator Royce West and made us laugh with the story of how he coined his famous line that Senator kept as a slogan throughout the rest of his campaign “Go West!” He loved watching America’s Team the Dallas Cowboys play football and he also enjoyed watching the Dallas Mavericks; especially with his daughters and grandchildren. He recently had started to ride the bus to the Irving Heritage Senior Citizens center to take part in water aerobics and other activities. His favorite thing to do above all with family was go out to eat and have cookouts! He cherished family time more than anything and never turned anyone away. If you went to him for help, he would do everything in his power to help you.
Phillip Torres is preceded in death by his parents Crespin and Josephine Torres and his brother Victor Torres along with his uncles and aunts: Arturo and Margaret Velasquez, Martin and Donalicha Alonzo & Saleta, Cruz, John and Cisto Torres and Jesus, Gabriel, Pete and Josephine (Josie) Palacios and his cousins Irma and Jesse Alonzo.
He is survived by his daughters Marisa and Vanessa Jimenez and his sisters Viola Torres, Marie CT “The Greatest” Maldonado and sister Sylvia and brother in law Jesse Rincon and two surviving aunts Carmen Moreno & Amanda Montez and cousins Arthur, Albert, Yolanda and Juan Velasquez and Martin & Gilbert Alonzo. His legacy continues with two grandchildren Michael Phillip “Mikey” Lara and Ava Rose Alonzo and nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4-8pm with a Rosary beginning at 6pm on Tuesday August 8 and Wednesday August 9 starting at 2pm a final Eulogy will be held with a private closing of the casket for immediate family followed by a procession to his final resting place located in the Garden of St. Francis. A final prayer will be said before he’s laid to rest in the ground and we will have a moment to reflect and say any final thoughts and please if anyone would like to share a memory do not be shy.
Phillip loved to sit around and tell stories and make everyone laugh. He had a loud echoing voice that would belt out words to songs he loved and would tear up when he spoke about passed loved ones and anything sentimental. He loved his daughters and his whole world revolved around his grandchildren. They were the light of his life and brought him a tremendous amount of joy. He will be remembered and missed but certainly not forgotten.
Flowers and other remembrance items can be sent to Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 3235 Lombardy lane Dallas, TX 75220.
We wish to thank everyone who will be attending and know that your presence brings us comfort during this difficult time.
