He was born on September 1, 1950 in Independence, Louisiana. Sonny was raised on the family farm in the Sweetwater community surrounded by relatives. Sonny attended grade school at Mater Delorosa Catholic School, then Southeastern Louisiana Prep. Upon graduation, he enrolled in college at Northeast Louisiana University (University of Louisiana Monroe) and received a B.S. degree in pharmacy, a major in chemistry, and a minor in biology in 1973. He was a fraternity member of the Phi Delta Chi professional fraternity. He received his real estate license from Eastfield Junior College in 1978. After working for Eckerd’s Drugs, he purchased Adams Drugs in Forney, Texas, in 1982 and operated it until its buy-out by Brookshire's in 1999. During his career with Eckerd’s, he was also a nursing home consultant. He was truly dedicated to his profession and always gave personalized service to all his customers. He made many late-night deliveries as well as helped those who didn’t have the means.
Our family as well as his extended family relied on his advice. He was always available and told everyone he was “just a phone call away”. Sonny semi-retired about 5 years ago and enjoyed his extra time on his farm in Mt. Vernon, Texas. He loved his family and treasured any time spent with them. He was the first one to arrive at any get together or party and the last to leave. He always had a smile on his face. Sonny loved traveling, fly fishing, hunting, driving fast and his tractors. He will surely be missed by many but will never be forgotten.
Proceeded in death by his parents Philip J. Saragusa and Lena (Lalumia) Saragusa, Sonny is survived by his children Philip Saragusa and Sunilyn King, brother Michael Saragusa, sister-in-law Annette Saragusa, sister Linda Saragusa (Don Keith), and girlfriend Angela Patterson.
