Pauline Marie Altebaumer Miller, 82, passed away after a short illness, on February 1, 2016 in Mesquite, TX. She was born August 22, 1933 to her proud parents Vince Altebaumer and Christina Loeffelholz Altebaumer and grew up on a farm north of Pilot Point, Texas.
Pauline was a studious child and throughout her life promoted education. She attended St. Thomas Catholic School in Pilot Point, in grades one through eight. Grades nine through twelve, she attended Pilot Point High School, where she graduated with top honors as Valedictorian. Immediately after high school, she moved to Dallas and attended St. Paul School of Nursing, graduating in 1955 with her Registered Nurse degree. Later, she attended Texas Women’s University in Dallas and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English.
She used her RN degree to help treat, aid and comfort the sick and their families. At Arlington Community Hospital, Pauline served as Director of Operating Rooms for 18 years. After retiring from the long drive to Arlington, she used her skills to audit medical bills. She was last employed at IMO (Injury Management Organization), where she worked full-time into her late 70’s, and she really enjoyed working there.
Pauline married Henry A. Miller at Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral in Dallas, on April 21, 1956. Father Frank Miller, cousin of the groom, performed the Nuptial Mass. Henry and Pauline met while she and her friends were celebrating receiving her RN License, and they were married for 59 years.
She also attended classes where she learned the art of baking and decorating wedding and birthday cakes. This became one of her favorite hobbies. She served as a Girl Scout Leader at St. Bernard’s and was also Treasurer for the Ladies Auxiliary for VFW Post 1937. Pauline and her husband traveled to other countries, and she said she had seen everything that she wanted to see. She loved taking short trips to Bossier City and Las Vegas. A month before her death, she enjoyed celebrating New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day with Henry, at a casino in Bossier City. Her grandchildren and great-granddaughter always brought her such joy.
Pauline is survived by her husband, Henry A. Miller, Sr. of Dallas; son Steve Miller of Gilmer, TX; daughter Tricia Foster of Ennis, TX; grandchildren Melissa McGaughey and husband Matt of Dallas, Greg Foster of Dallas, and Daniel Foster of Ennis; one great-granddaughter Madison McGaughey of Dallas. Surviving siblings include her sisters Dorothy Rayburn of Kaufman, TX; Jeanette Jordan and her husband Leon of Kaufman, TX; and brother Al Altebaumer and his wife Ann of Sanger, TX. She also had many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
