Known by many names Paul, Corley, Dad, Uncle Paul, “ The Professor” and Papa. He was someone who appreciated the outdoors, nature and the stars in the sky. Born in Austin Texas in March of 1958, Paul’s first home was built by his grandfather in Westlake Hills. He grew up attending Eanes School and excelled in Boy Scouts, attending Philmont Scout Ranch twice. Paul was a proud member of the Westlake Junior High and High School band 70-76 under the direction of Lee Boyd Mongomery. The band participated in the Regional UIL competition with Paul as a percussionist. To all his band members he spoke fondly of your time together. He was also a member of the Westlake choir who in 1974/75 toured Romania while it was still behind the Iron Curtain, as part of the Ambassadors for Friendship sponsored by Readers Digest. Only 10 choirs were selected, it was the trip of a lifetime.
Following his high school graduation Paul enlisted in the USMC from 1977-1981, as a repair technician for microwave radios. He was in several locations including 29 Palms, Keesler AF base, Cherry Point North Carolina, El Toro and Okinawa Japan. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for his dad at Annandale Engineering in the security and fire alarms sector. On a rainy night in Austin in 1981, he met his future wife and the rest was history. Paul moved to Dallas and married his loving wife Sharon Ann Keating. He continued to work in Dallas doing security and electrical work for several companies. Married for 41 years they were blessed with one daughter, Shannon.
Paul was a part owner of the Annandale Ranch along with his brother and sister Bruce & Kathyrn and with his two cousins Bill and George Cofer. His happy place was at the Ranch and he enjoyed many times there with friends. His hobbies of photography, rock and mineral collecting tended to lead to many lost hours on the property.
In Feb. 2021 Paul was diagnosed with ocular melanoma during a routine ophthalmology appointment. The cancer spread to his liver and other organs over time. He soldiered through this devastating diagnosis with his optimism, humor and humility. After a year off work, he was able to return to his job, but ultimately stopped in July of 2024. The family wishes to thank Dr. Timothy Fuller and his staff at Texas Retina for guiding the family with this rare diagnosis and treatment journey. He was informative and remained current on the evolving medical literature.
Predeceased by his parents Albert and Nancy McQuown. Survived by his wife Sharon, daughter Shannon Rivers and husband Chris, their three children Anastasia, Anthony (Papa’s shadow) and Regina. Also survived by his brother Bruce McQuown and wife Sharon, sister Kathryn Wendlandt and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a circle of friends.
There will be a Memorial Mass Monday, Dec. 23 at 1 pm at St. Rita Catholic Church 12521 Inwood Road in Dallas. Reception to follow. Internment will be held on a future date at his beloved Annandale Ranch. Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of your choosing. To honor yourself and Paul schedule an appointment with an ophthalmologist for continued eye health.
