Patricia (Long) Williams passed peacefully Wednesday, March 4, in New Braunfels. Born April 26, 1924, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, she was the first child of Violet (Grisham) and Lloyd Long. She graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1941. While holding a full-time job and helping care for her younger brothers, she volunteered as a junior hostess at the Camp Robinson Service Club, where she met her husband-to-be.
Pat married Julian F. Williams, Jr., on June 15, 1946, in Little Rock. While in Arkansas she served as a PTA president, community organizer, Cub Scout den mother, Sunday School teacher, and active member of First Christian Church before the family moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1961.
In Dallas, Pat continued making a home for her family of four: driving carpools, attending school functions, and enforcing homework rules. She was an enthusiastic card player, and at one time was a member of four weekly bridge groups. She was a regular visitor to the Dallas Public Library and strongly encouraged her family to join her. Pat was active in two literary luncheon groups: the Coronet Book Club and the Azilian Club (through much of its seventy-five-year history). Pat and Julian were active members of East Dallas Christian Church and the Sanders Couples Class there, each serving as president and in other offices.
Following Julian’s death in 2001, Pat lived independently in Dallas before moving to New Braunfels in 2016 to be near her daughter and son-in-law. She celebrated her ninety-fifth birthday there with family members and friends from three states.
Pat was predeceased by Julian, her husband of fifty-six years; brothers James T. and Bobby Long; granddaughter Meagan Alma Mollenhauer, and Linus, her canine companion of twelve years. She is survived by her son, Julian “Rusty” Williams of Dallas, daughter Ann Williams John, and son-in-law Brien John, both of New Braunfels. Also, grandson Julian Williams IV of Frisco; nieces Laura Long O’Kelley, Phyllis Long Roberts, and Carol Long Fisher, all of Arkansas; and great-granddaughter Ava Kai Mollenhauer of New Jersey.
A graveside remembrance service will be held on Friday, September 25, 11 a.m., at Sparkman-Hillcrest.
