She had twinkling eyes, a wry smile, and a generous spirit that endeared her to everyone she met. The youngest of ten children (including a twin sister, Mary), she was born in Orange, N.J. and she graduated from Saint Vincent Academy in Newark. Her parents, John and Bridget McGarry emigrated to America from Ireland early in the last century.
Pat enjoyed a hot cup of tea, even more so when accompanied by good conversation. As she became less mobile the lilting call of “Would some kind gentleman (i.e. her son Andrew) make me a nice cup of tea?" rang through her house with the regularity of church bells.
She occupied her weekend afternoons watching golf and her two favorite football teams, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and the Green Bay Packers. Although she lived in Texas for more than half her life, she was decidedly NOT a Dallas Cowboys fan. Much to the chagrin of her eldest sons, she was unconcerned with scheduling Thanksgiving dinner at a time that would accommodate their annual game.
Pat loved flowers (especially roses), a variety of music, and bridge. In her younger days she dedicated herself to raising her six children and participating in a variety of their activities, including serving as a Leader in the Girl Scouts of America. In recent years she occupied her time at the Farmers Branch Senior Center playing bridge and visiting with friends. Nothing pleased her more than spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she adored.
She is survived by her children: Kathleen Haines and husband Mark of Old Greenwich, CT; Marianne Cribbin of Houston, TX; Joseph Cribbin and his wife Terri of Keller, TX; son Kevin Cribbin of Farmers Branch, TX; son Andrew Cribbin of Dallas, TX; daughter Melissa Sharma and her husband Sanjay of Decatur, GA.; grandchildren Joseph, Lillian, Bela, and Arya. She is also survived by her brother James of Jacksonville, FL, and by a legion of loving nieces and nephews and their children.
