Oscar Mario Flores passed away on July 23, 2020 at the age of 79. After several months of failing health, his final hours were spent at home with his wife and family by his side.
Oscar was born on March 5, 1941 in Laredo, Texas to Fabian and Guadalupe (Luna) Flores. He attended school at Crozier Tech and Eagle Ford then served active duty in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969. He continued his service in the Texas Army National Guard until February of 1984. In May of 1987 he married Mercy Izaguirre in Dallas, Texas.
Oscar started his career with DTS in 1970 and retired after 38 years of service from DART where he worked in multiple departments/functions ultimately retiring as the Manager of Training & Support Services.
Many may remember him as a coach and player on a softball team in West Dallas called Los Lobos, a founding member of Viejo de los Barrios as well as a member of VFW American Legion Post No. 275.
Oscar had many passions from watching boxing, taking cruises with his wife to spending time with family and friends. He also loved to play racquetball with his friends and his son, Richard, at Bally's in Redbird.
Oscar is survived by his wife Mercy, his sister Olga Tapia, his children Oscar Jr., James (Belinda), Christina, Ofilia (Dan) Roen, Richard (Rita), Orlando, Michelle (Javier) Ramirez as well as his grandchildren Kathy, Jade (Jonah) Edwards, Max, Richard II, Benjamin, Sarah, Samantha, Melena, Emily, Lucas, Jaxen, James, Elena and one great grandchild, Hayes along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Fabian and Lupe Flores and his siblings Imelda, Roy, Hector and Fabian Flores.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Thursday, July 30 with public burial held at 1 p.m. in Calvary Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff of Methodist Hospital and Total Hospice & Palliative Care for their care of Oscar as well as their compassion for the family during his final days.
