On Friday, September 25, 2020, Norman Arnold Zable, loving husband, brother and father of three sons, passed away of natural causes at the age of 86. Norman was born on July 11, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph and Marian (Rosen) Zable. Norman and his family moved to Dallas in 1939, where he graduated from Highland Park High School and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University. On June 16, 1963, he married Vera Slutzky of Oklahoma City and together they raised three sons, Nathan”Barak”, Brett and Mark. Norman practiced law for over 50 years in Dallas, retiring at age 80 only because his legal secretary of 45 years insisted upon retiring.
In addition to his successful legal practice, Norman was a local legend for establishing the Belgian Waffles concession at the State Fair of Texas. Norman, an Eagle Scout himself, was very active with his sons during their scouting years, climbing Philmont twice and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts of America. Norman loved to travel, always was up for adventure and admittedly was the world’s absolute worst driver.
Norman was preceded in death by his father Joseph, mother Marion and stepmother Edith. He is survived by his wife Vera, his three sons, Nathan (Michele), Brett and Mark (Amber) and his grandson Zachary. He is also survived by his sister Phyllis (Ken) Langsdorf of St. Louis and two nieces Sarah (Matt) Adess and Elizabeth Langsdorf of Chicago. Norman leaves behind a large extended family who he loved dearly.
