Dr. Norman C. Wu

Norman Chung-Yi Wu was born in Austin, TX on April 2, 1971 and was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 25, 2012 at the age of 41 having fought a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the beloved husband of Emily Wu, to whom he was married for 15 years, and a loving father to sons, Hanson, age 14 and Harrison, age 10, whom he loved more than life itself. Norman attended Cunningham Elementary, Bedichek Middle School and Crockett High School before graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, having majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Chemistry. He studied briefly towards a Masters in Public Health and then, in 1996, attended The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio to study medicine. Graduating in 2001, Norman did his internship and subsequent residency in Anesthesiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and in 2005 joined Excel Anesthesia in Plano. Well regarded by his partners and peers throughout the DFW medical community, Norman was unique in his entrepreneurial flair and unmatched in his work ethic. Norman enjoyed sharing his love of war history, travel, food and coin collecting with his family. All who knew Norman were touched by the love he shared freely and his generous spirit, along with his practice of helping anyone in need. Norman was also an avid sports fan and loved to exercise and lift weights. Norman is survived by his father and mother, Hsing-Wu Wu, and Christine Wu of Austin, married nearly 45 years, his older brother Clement Wu of Austin, his mother-in-law, Anh Quan, and all of Emily’s many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. Visitation services will be held on Monday, May 28, 2012 at 3pm followed immediately by a Funeral Mass at 5pm with reception to follow all to be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Community, 5100 Plano Parkway West, Plano, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made out to “The Norman Wu Foundation c/o Wells Fargo #7271456431” and mailed to Wells Fargo, 5968 W. Parker Rd., Suite B, Plano, TX 75093 in support of lung cancer research and treatment.
