Norma Ann Wallace of Highland Park, Texas, passed peacefully away on December 23, 2022, with her children, Jay Wallace and Lynn Van Amburgh, holding her hands at her bedside. She was 87 and lived a full life with her husband of 67 years, Gene. She went swiftly and happily into the welcoming arms of her Lord and Savior.
Norma was born to Wilbur Henry Marshall and Ruby Anderson Marshall on November 2, 1935, in Apalachicola, Florida. She is survived by her beloved husband, Gene Allan Wallace; children Lynn Wallace Van Amburgh and husband John of Dallas, TX; Jay Marshall Wallace and wife Kathleen of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Courtney Van Amburgh Morrow and her husband Coby, David Marshall Van Amburgh and his wife Ashton; Regan and Marshall Wallace; great-grandchildren Charlotte and Crawford Morrow and Sutter Van Amburgh; and countless friends.
She attended Florida State University and met Gene at a fraternity function where he told her upon meeting that he would be her betrothed. She married the love of her life, on July 30, 1955, and was lovingly committed to him for more than six decades, until she went to be with the Lord. Norma and Gene moved to Dallas from Danville, Illinois, with their two young children in 1968. She lived for her family- what she always maintained was her proudest accomplishment. Norma adored being a grandmother and great-grandmother to whom she was affectionately known as Grandma and Great-Grand respectively. She and Gene were active members of Park Cities Presbyterian Church, where they were regular attendees of the weekly service and Sunday school and made many close friends. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, where she remained an active alumnus throughout the years.
You could often find Norma and Gene at Dallas Country Club, celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and holidays with family and gathering with longtime friends for dinner. As she got older, she maintained her quick wit and tell-it-like-it-is persona with a love for meaningful conversation. Norma never missed a birthday, loved deeply, remembered the smallest details from memories in years past and fiercely protected her family and beliefs.
We have full confidence that she is in Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Although we will terribly miss weekend antique store outings and her sense of humor, we know that she is getting things situated just as she sees fit inside the pearly gates alongside our family before her.
A celebration of Norma’s life will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas, on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation or Park Cities Presbyterian Church.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com for the Wallace family.
