In the words of the great Dr. Suess. “Don’t Cry Because It’s Over. Smile Because It Happened.”
Dr. Suess’s words encompass Nancy’s witty and sweet intelligence. Nancy struggled with physical pain later in her life, but did not let that slow her down or keep her from helping someone else. She lived fiercely and never took crap from anyone. She spent her life working for the ones she loved. She will forever be the women who could accomplish anything she set her mind to.
Nancy was born in Dallas, Texas. She graduated High School from South Oak Cliff and then continued her education at North Texas University, where she received her bachelors degree in journalism. She dedicated her passion to teaching English in Dallas independent School District and Garland Independent School District. Nancy recently retired from teaching at Naaman Forest High School in Garland, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Geneva Finley and brother, James "Jim" Finley.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband Jon Thomas Powell, son Jon Thomas Powell, daughters Kelly Powell-Walters and Joanna Powell, sister Joan Finley, and nephews Scott and Mike Finley.
