Nancy Jo Fish died at home on Monday, Oct. 25, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Ft. Worth, TX, the daughter of Charles Royce (“Buster”) and Wilma Jo Putteet, for a $100 doctor fee. She grew up in Cresson, TX, with her siblings Gary and Susan, attending Cresson School and Granbury High School. Nancy was well-liked and popular. She was included in the yearly Who's Who, was a cheerleader and senior year football sweetheart. Nancy earned an education degree from TCU. She taught for a time at Morningside and Waverly Park elementary schools.
Nancy stole the heart of Gary Fish, her brother's roommate in medical school, (Gary doesn’t know why she picked him but he is eternally grateful for her choice) and the two were married in 1972 at Robert Carr Chapel on TCU campus. After marriage, Nancy and Gary lived in New York City for a year, then Dallas, Iowa City and London before settling back in Dallas, where they raised their two boys, Nathan and Joel.
Nancy was a dedicated mother and homemaker that took extraordinary care of her family, managing the day-to-day family adventures with love, kindness and encouragement. She loved her garden and pond. In her later years, she was the matriarch of a growing family of grandchildren, grandnephews and grandnieces, all of whom she loved, and they loved her unceasingly.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father and mother, Charles Royce and Wilma Jo Putteet. She is survived by husband of 49 years, Gary Fish; two sons & daughters-in-law, Nathan and Lily Fish, and Joel and Favour Fish; grandchildren, Stella, Beatrice and Henry; brother, Gary Putteet, and his partner, Greg Cleveland; sister, Susan, and brother-in-law, Phil Jaskoviak, as well as Sally, Joe, Molly Kate, Charlie, Seth and Seung Hee, and many other in-laws, nieces, nephews and grandpeople.
