Nancy Ruth Mullaney Chapman was called Home to the Lord on July 12, 2020 in Dallas, Texas. She died from congestive heart failure at age ninety-seven. Nancy was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and was the last surviving child of Opal Ruth Brackeen Mullaney and James Jackson Mullaney IV. She is survived by one daughter, Jan Chapman-Green (Wister Joe); one son, Larry Lynn Chapman; two granddaughters, Lauren Noland (John) and Kristen Stewart (Jeremy) and their mother, Sharon Schwartz Chapman; also three great-grand children, Brynleigh Grace Stewart; Sailen Martin Stewart; and Hunter Ryan Noland. She was predeceased by her first born son, Adair Pinckney Chapman III (Buz) on July 12, 1952 and by Adair Pinckney Chapman, Jr. her devoted husband for seventy two years. He, likewise, passed from this life on July 12, 2013.
Nancy was a student at Harding College when she met Adair. When he felt led to become a Church of Christ minister, she was an encouragement and grew to fully embrace her role and responsibilities as a minister’s wife. They had a strong love and concern for those who did not know the Lord. Together, they were instrumental in planting, strengthening, and serving churches across the south and Midwest, locally including Highland Park, Garland Road, and Main Street Churches of Christ. Each congregation continues in the Lord’s work today.
Our mother lovingly devoted twenty-three years as member or leader in Bible study at Bible Study Fellowship in Garland, and greatly enjoyed Book Lore, Lakewood Garden Club and winning at First Thursday Duplicate Bridge. She was effervescent and charming and dearly loved her many friends. For fifty years, Lakewood Country Club was the backdrop to innumerable precious moments shared with her.
Nancy left us all an enormous legacy of love, wisdom, faith and prayer “without ceasing.” Her greatest love was for the Lord and her very blessed family. Her last joyful words to us were, “I love you. I am leaving. I want to go Home. Goodbye! Goodbye! Goodbye! Goodbye!”
A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will be held at Lakewood Country Club (Dallas) on August 8, 2020 2–4 p.m.
