Nancy Jayne Baker Calhoun, born March 14, 1932, died September 20, 2017. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Thomas Gilmer Calhoun, II, by her parents, Bea and Glenn Thomas Baker, and by her sister Betty Royce Baker. Nancy leaves behind her daughters Katy Pasqual and Mary Jane Jones and her husband Ralph, and her grandchildren Emily Caroline Pasqual, Phillip Thomas Pasqual, Kelly Claire and Daniel Simmons, and William Thomas Jones. Nancy’s life was marked by her love of family, friends, and a deep and abiding Christian faith. She loved home and all aspects of it: talented cook, skilled seamstress, and gracious hostess. She was a devoted longtime member of Believer’s Chapel, and enjoyed over 30 years as a docent at SMU’s Meadows Museum of Art. An avid reader and eager learner, she loved study in all its forms, whether Biblical or academic, and was insatiably curious. Travel was another joy that fueled her curiosity and love of learning. Any pursuit where Nancy became involved was marked by two things: enthusiastic and dedicated participation and the formation of treasured friendships. She made long term friendships wherever she went—neighborhood, church, museum—and these friendships were a source of great joy to her til the end of her life. Nancy ended her life as she had lived it, grateful to God for the life she had led, gracious and concerned for those around her. We are deeply thankful for the warmth and friendship of Luz Espindola and Lelia Suarez who treated Nancy and her family with a kindness beyond what we could have ever asked. Memorial services will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, on Friday, September 22 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the charity of your choice.
