Nancy was born on November 9, 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was the baby of seven children born to William Earl Scarbrough and Eveleen Veronica Cantor Scarbrough. Nancy married Edgar Roy Behner in April 1954. In 1963, Ed accepted a transfer with Braniff Airlines from Maryland, where he and Nancy had already started their family. In August 1963 they loaded a u-haul and their Chrysler Imperial with all their belongings and 4 children, with another on the way to begin a new life in Texas.
Settling in Dallas, Nancy had her hands full with 5 children and no drivers license. She managed and budgeted her home and the kids during the day and took on a few part time jobs in the evenings for extra income and her own sanity. With Ed's airline benefits, Nancy often enjoyed traveling to take all the kids to see her mother and other family members in Florida. It wasn't long before the family grew not by one or two, but three more children were born over the next 4 years, bringing the family to an even 4 sons and 4 daughters. There was never a dull or quiet moment in the Behner household. Even the teachers at the elementary school thought the kids were never ending with another Behner child every other school year.
Times were tough with 8 children to support, but Ed and Nancy managed to raise and teach every one of their children respect, values and to love and care for each other.
It wasn't long before her own children were now having children and the family grew bigger. Summers and holidays were always fun with lots of laughter and stories to share and memories to make. She loved her children but being a grandmother gave her even more joy. Over the years she was able to enjoy another generation of children running around. With her own children moving out, Nancy finally got her drivers license and found some time to herself. She started attending the local Bingo parlor for some time with adults. It didn't take long before she became a regular so much so that her kids began calling it her "job" since she was there so often. She made friends and began enjoying a life outside of her home and family. Playing Bingo was more than just fun, she enjoyed socializing and it was an excellent way to keep her mind sharp.
Over the last few months, all the years of smoking caught up with her and her health took a turn for the worst over the holidays. Not long after being admitted to the hospital, Nancy passed away with all her children beside her.
She was a good mother, who sacrificed so much in order to care for others. Mom, we will miss you and will forever hold you close in our hearts.
