The fourth of 10 children, Moses Charles Ward was born February 23, 1950 in Marlin, Texas to the late Nealon Ward and Lela Bell (Moore) Ward. His parents relocated the family to Dallas, Texas when he was only 2 years of age. Though times were tough in West Dallas, the family successfully weathered life’s storms.
While growing up in the George Loving Place Apartments on Applegrove St., Moses attended George W. Carver Elementary and Sequoyah Junior High School. In 1968, Moses graduated from Dr. L. G. Pinkston Sr. High School in Dallas ISD. To this day, the Class of ‘68 has remained close-knit, and like Moses, are actively involved in the Pinkston Alumni Association.
Moses’ desire to further his education led him to Henderson County Junior College, where he met the love of his life, Margie Basher. While dating, they continued higher education pursuits, and on October 30, 1972, the couple began their 52+year marriage and never looked back. Moses acquired his first degree, a Bachelor or Arts in Sociology right after finishing high school.
To their union, two sons were born, Ryan Christopher and Brandon Michael. Moses was a devout man of God; therefore he and Margie raised their sons in the fear and admonition of God. Moses joined Full Gospel Holy Temple Church with his family by his side in 1980, and remained a faithful member there until he passed away. He actively served the Lord and his church through committees and organizations such as Brotherhood, Helping Hand, and the Security Team.
Moses worked for several different companies in his lifetime, including Lone Star Gas, TXU Electric, The City of Lancaster, and DeSoto Independent School District. His passion for working with special needs and at-risk students motivated him to return to Prairie View A&M University where he acquired his Masters degree in Counseling. Although much loved by the students and vice versa, Moses retired from education in 2020 to begin his most fulfilling assignment …helping his son Brandon design and build houses (Blue Porch Homes LLC).
Moses was preceded in death by both his parents, his oldest sister, Maggie L Ward, sister, Deborah K. Higgins, sister Sarah A. Ward and his youngest brother, Keith N. Ward.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his faithful wife of over 52 years, Margie (Basher) Ward, his two sons Ryan Christopher Ward (wife LaKeshia) and Brandon Michael Ward (wife Tameca).. His grandchildren: Cameron O'Ryan Ward (wife Brooklyn and son Cameron Jr.), Aubrianna Parker-Richardson (husband, Dontrevian and son and daughter, Daelon and Avayah), Jordan Armani Ward, Prodigy Brandon Ward, Odyssey Michelle Ward, Maya Roselle Ward, and ShaNaya JaNell Ward. Goddaughter: Leslie Versey and Godson: Willie McCowan.
Moses is also survived by his siblings - brothers: Nealon L. Ward, James E. Ward, Travis D. Ward, and sisters: Beatrice Ward-Singh & Connie A. Ward
Also mourning and cherishing his memory are several brother & sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Moses touched the lives and left an impression on everyone he met, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. We can rejoice and find solitude in the fact that he is no longer in pain & suffering, but in the care of our Lord and Saviour.
