Miriam Guckenheimer Vernon passed away peacefully October 9, 2024, at her home in the Five Star Premier Residences, Dallas, Texas. Miriam loved her Five Star community and friends; she was very happy there for the past 7 years.
A lifelong Dallas resident Miriam was born May 21, 1925, in Baylor Hospital, she lived as far south as Park Row Ave and as far north as Pallos Verdas Drive, a distance of 18 miles. A 1941 graduate of Forest Avenue High School, Miriam graduated secretarial school, then rode the Dallas streetcar downtown weekdays to work at an insurance agency. Miriam married Max Vernon June 26, 1955. Miriam and Max traveled the world, always returning home to Dallas. A lifelong member of Temple Emanu-El, another community she loved. Miriam sang in the choir for over 40 years and was active in sisterhood. Our family's matriarch took great pride in her appearance and her home. She dressed appropriately everyday & elegantly for every event. Her home was always neat and tidy. Miriam was an avid reader, crossword puzzle player and knowledgeable about current events and culture.
Miriam is survived by her sister-in-law Margaret Guggenheim, son Jay Vernon and daughter-in-law Lynn, Nieces Debbie Strasmick and Nancy Feldman and husband Michael, Nephew Peter Guggenheim and wife Marcela Katz Armoza, Granddaughters Hope Vernon and Jennalie Holte, Great Grandchildren Verity, Vivienne and Duane Holte. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Temple Emanu-El of Dallas or North Texas Food Bank.
A memorial service will be held Monday, October 14, 2024, at Temple Emanu-El of Dallas, 8500 Hillcrest Road at 11:00 AM in the Stern Chapel with a reception following.
