Mildred "Dana" Ward was born July 28th, 1928 in Wylie TX to James and Irene Staton. She was next to the youngest of many siblings. Her mother passed away very young when Dana was only 3 and her oldest sister, Ruby raised her. She graduated from North Dallas High School in 1948.
Dana started her long career with Southwestern Bell Telephone where she worked various positions until she retired after 30 yrs. service.
She married Don Ward on Oct. 14th, 1959. They resided in Dallas, Mesquite was their first home. They enjoyed their lives fishing and boating. They moved back to Dallas in their dream home in 1966. Their home was shared with Don's mother, Beulah and his daughter, Donna Gail. The 3 D's enjoyed weekend camping with family friends and summer vacations in Colorado.
When they retired, they moved to Deleon, TX and had a farm with peach trees, a huge garden and a cow and horse. Country living was fun for a while but they grew tired of it after a few years and sold the farm for their new home on wheels. They became full time campers and traveled all over the United States making new friends and enjoying themselves completely.
Don became too ill to travel and they were forced to park the home in Wylie. Dana took such good care of him until he passed in 2007. They were forced to sell the trailer and moved into The Bristol in Richardson until Don passed. Dana stayed there for 6 yrs until her health took a turn for the worst last December. She was very independent and it took many conversations to convince her she could no longer live by herself.
She moved to Donna Gail's mid-March and they enjoyed many long talks, walks, visits with family, card games, and puzzles. Their time together was very special to both and ended too quickly.
Dana is now in heaven with Don, all her family and friends in a new young healthy body.
We loved you, learned so much from you and will carry you in our hearts till we are together again.
Arrangements under the direction of Grove Hill Funeral Home, Dallas, TX.
