Michael Lee Umphress

Michael Lee Umphress, passed away at his home in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, October 20, 2012. Mike Umphress was born March 5, 1933 in Dallas. He was adopted as an infant by Mitchell A. and Jessie Lee Umphress (Elkins). He was a cadet at Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio and later attended Texas A&M and North Texas State University where he met his bride of 57 years, Lou Jane Umphress (Pogue) of Sulphur Springs, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army as a non-commissioned officer stationed mostly in occupied Europe following WWII. Mike worked for Lincoln Property Company. He also sold insurance, commercial real estate (with Majors and Majors), and automobiles. He owned and managed several commercial and residential properties. Mike enjoyed working with kids, serving as the scoutmaster of Troop 81 in Highland Park. He is survived by wife, Lou Jane; sons, Michael Jr., Richard and Kent Umphress; and grandchildren, Allison, Richard II, Lauren, Conor and Mackinzie. Funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Grove Hill Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
