As I am preparing to celebrate a mass for Michael & all of you, my heart is filled with Peace, Love and Compassion. Deep down in my soul,I know that Michael is now in his new home in heaven, embraced dearly & tenderly by Jesus, Mary, the angels, the saints and his own Resurrected family members & friends! As I pray, looking at a fantastic northern forest sunrise this Sunday morning, my whole being rejoices in knowing that Michael has conquered death for an Eternity of LOVE. And one day Michael will greet you with a big smile and say "welcome home". In the meantime know that he won't be far. So if you need him, call and he will come. Though you may not see or touch your husband & Dad, he will always be near. And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear all his love around you, soft and clear. On Sunday morning(4-29-12), at Notre Dame du Mont Carmel Parish in northern Maine, a mass of Resurrection will be celebrated in thanksgiving to God, for Michael's life and for peace of heart for his family. Fr. Jacques LaPointe O.F.M.

Dear Cynthia, 
I'm sure you remember this, but for your girls and as a reminder to you, I want to relate how Michael touched my life. I grew up in a non-Catholic and pretty much non-religious family, but Tammy was Catholic and I was planning to go through the  RCIA program to become a Catholic. I had known Michael for only a short time when he became aware of my plans and offered to be my sponsor (and godfather) in the RCIA process. At the time, I didn't realize what a huge time commitment that represented.
During one of the classes, the leader of the program, one of the more spiritual women I've known, was asked about frequency of going to confession. She went about once a month and felt this was fairly reasonable. I thought it sounded way too often. It was at this point that I realized how remotely distant I was from Michael as far as being a dedicated and devout Catholic. He went three times a week.
After helping guide me through RCIA, Michael was there with his hand on my shoulder at the Easter Vigil where I was baptized, received first Eucharist, was confirmed a Catholic (I had been to confession at least once) and convalidated my marriage vows with Tammy. I still feel his hand on my shoulder and I think of him every time I go to mass. The last time we saw him was on a Father's Day. I had great respect for him as my godfather. He was a great husband and father to you. We pray for you.

Our fondest memory of Michael is of the day we met him when he came to our house in early fall of Claudia's freshman year at Ursuline Academy, to take our oldest daughter, Natasha to a Jesuit football game.

We were so impressed with your family's thoughtfulness.  

This was the day we met Michael and your wonderful family. Unfortunately, one week later, he became ill and we did not have the chance to see him again.

However, he was always in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Murphy Family. Perhaps you will find this unusual that someone who never knew Michael or your family would be writing in this most treasured guest book. I live in MI but am working temporarily in IN. This morning I read the paper and saw the picture of this most vibrant and soulful individual, it was your dear husband and father. I went to the website and viewed all the wonderful pictures of a family so full of life! It truly touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. Please know that I feel deeply for your loss and wanted you to know. In this circle of life, you never know how one person affects another; and this is an example of how your family has touched my life today. Mrs. Murphy and girls, we are sad to hear about Michael' death. My family and I were just reminiscimg about Fiesta here at OLA and when he opened up the slides for all the students to play on. It was such a great moment for the friends of the girls. Jessica laughs about that fun today. Girls stay together through this and always count on each other. God Bless you all.

Cynthia and Family, I was so sad to hear of Mike's passing.  He was a great guy, and I have so many wonderful memories from High School.  We will keep you in our prayers.

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you about "little Mike". Your husband/Dad was like a little brother to me and I loved him dearly. Mike prayed to my late husband and hoped for a miricle just like we all were.  My wish is that his Uncle Michael McHugh was waiting, along with My Mom and Dad with open arms to welcome him into heaven. 
Unfortunately my boys and I know exactly what you are all going through. My best advice is to stick together and move forward (this is very hard to do)but you are all strong women/girls and will do just that for Michael/your Dad.
