He was born in South Bend, Indiana and lived there much of his life. He moved to Grand Prairie, Texas in 2011.
Michael, the eldest son of the late Katheryn and Adrain Cogdell, was born on August 9, 1940. In his youth he attended Perley Elementary School and Thomas Jefferson Middle School. Michael gradute from John Adams High School in 1957, and went on to attend Indiana University South Bend and graduated from ITT Technical Institute. He served 8 years in the United States Navy. Michael retired from Xerox Corporation after thirty-two years of employment. During his tenure at Xerox, he was promoted to the position of Senior Technical Representative. He was an avid sports fan, a long-time bowler (Chippewa and Beacon Bowl), he enjoyed time with his family, trips to the library and was a member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship. One of his favorite sayings was “step away from the cookie jar”, and would sing “Baby it’s cold outside”.
Loving family members left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carolyn ho cared for him until his last day, five children; Michael A. Cogdell (Grand Prairie, TX), Sean C. Cogdell (Mishawaka, Indiana), Tasha L. (Brian) Smith (Grand Prairie, TX), Jevon A. Cogdell (South Bend, Indiana), and Shantell C. Cogdell ( Chandler, Arizona),; ten grandchildren: Jordan Cogdell, Tierra Cogdell, James Cogdell, Paris Smith, Corinne Cogdell, Jaidon-Pierce Cogdell, Brian Smith Jr, Jase Michael Cogdell, Jackson Smith and London Smith.
Preceding Michael Cogdell in death was his mother Katheryn P. Cogdell, who passed in 2003; his father, Adrain M. Cogdell who passed in 2001; his sister, Sandra Mclver, and two brothers Marvin Cogdell and Maurice Cogdell Sr.
