Mary Lou Melton

Mary Lou Melton, age 93, passed away on September 14, 2023 in Rowlett, Texas. She was born on March 9, 1930 in Dallas, Texas to Leonard Abbott and Lyla Gwyndolyn Hurley. Mary Lou was raised in Sulphur Springs and Dallas, Texas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson high school in 1946.

She married John Louis Melton Jr. on August 1, 1947, and the couple had 3 children. She was a Supervisor of the Bookkeeping Department at Casa Linda Commerce Bank where she worked for more than 26 years.

In her spare time, Mary Lou enjoyed going to church, gardening, genealogy, travel, reading, music, lunches and dinner with her family, twirling activities, and helping at the dance studio.

Her family and friends will always remember her as a loving, caring, and kind person who was available for family and friends, and someone who loved to laugh!

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Abbott and Lyla Gwyndolyn Hurley, and her husband of 49 years and 8 months, John Louis Melton Jr. (Johnny).

She is survived by her children Barbara Davis, Janice Jackson-Seamands, and John Melton; her grandchildren, John A. Melton, Jennifer Melton, Jessica Holrath, Jackie Kelsey, Susan Withrow,

Christy Thomas, and Holly Hurley; as well as numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. Every person in her very large family was special and important to her.

Mary Lou was a wonderful cook and hostess. She did Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners through 2022, sometimes for up to 45 people. She was amazing!

A visitation for Mary will be held Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A funeral service will occur Monday, September 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A reception will occur Monday, September 25, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228.
