She graduated from Danville High School in June, 1957 and married her high school sweetheart, David L. Von Blohn, Sr. in November, 1957. She is survived by her loving children, David L. Von Blohn Jr. (Daun) of Plano, TX, and Judy Ann Timmerman (Randy) of Parkville, MO, two wonderful grandchildren, Ashley and Erica Timmerman of Parkville, MO, two sisters, Judy Jenkins of Danville, PA, and Janie (Larry) Stewart, of Selinsgrove, PA, a brother, William T. Jenkins, Jr. (Mary Ann), of Plano, TX and brother-in-law, Sheldon Horne, of Reading, PA.. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Horne, of Reading, PA. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mary Lou was a devoted wife and mother. Her husband’s career required many relocations, both within Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and across the country, to Omaha, NE and Lake Saint Louis, MO. As a result Mary Lou has numerous friends she dearly loved in all these places. She was the “life of the party”; very outgoing and gregarious, no matter where she was living and who she was with. She was always active in the church. She was especially active in All Saint’s Lutheran Church, in Piscataway, NJ, and Living Lord Lutheran Church in Lake Saint Louis, MO, having served in many leadership positions.
After raising her two children, she began her professional career in 1975, working for the Lake Saint Louis Community Association. When Lake Saint Louis incorporated, in 1976, she became the first City Clerk. She held that position until her retirement in 2000. She became a Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) in 1987, and was a member of the IIMC Academy for Advanced Education of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). She held this key position for the City of Lake Saint Louis, working daily with the numerous Mayors, Board of Alderman, and City Administrators throughout her tenure with the City. She was the City Historian and the heartbeat of City Hall. In addition, Mary Lou cherished her friendships with all the people she served, as well as her City Clerk friends from around the state of Missouri. Upon her retirement in 2000, Mary Lou relocated to Texas to be closer to her family.
She also cherished her many roles, first as Mother, then as Aunt Mary Lou and later, as a grandmother, (Mimi). She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews, and her two grand- daughters, and they loved spending time with her too. She was especially close to Rebecca Peugh (Jenkins) and Billy Jenkins, as she spent many years/trips traveling to and from Texas to visit them. Likewise, she has spent many years/trips traveling to and from California, Texas and Missouri to spend time with her grandchildren, Ashley and Erica. Aunt Mary Lou/Mimi will live forever in their hearts, due to the unconditional love that she showed them.
Mary Lou enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. She was fortunate to have vacationed in many beautiful places, such as Germany, Italy, Hawaii, Alaska, Belize, Bermuda and Jamaica. She valued the memories of these trips, and all the fun that was had with the family and friends on these trips. She also enjoyed going to ANY casino to play the slot machines, playing scrabble, playing Bingo and Poker with her friends “at the home.” Mary Lou’s “other love” was
Elvis Presley. Those that knew Mary Lou can appreciate the symbolism of her passing away on the anniversary of his birthday.
A memorial service will be held at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, in Dallas, TX, on Sunday, January 13, 2013, 2:00-4:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor of Mary Lou, as she courageously fought this de-habilitating disease for over 35 years.
