Mary Cohen Hechtman Goodman was born June 23, 1916 in Dallas, Texas to Mendel Berel Cohen & Fannie Schemer Cohen and passed away on July 8, 2010 in Dallas, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, George Hechtman, and her husband of 25 years, Harold A. Goodman. Mary was the last survivor of 8 siblings and their spouses: Ben (Marjorie) Cohen, Mike (Felice) Cohen, Morris (Bess) Cohen, Anne (Jack) Prenovitz, Ely (Fannie) Cohen, Frank (Helen) Cohen, and her twin sister Sary (Raymond) Zimmerman. She was also predeceased by step-son Kenneth W. Goodman. She is lovingly survived by her daughters Marilyn (Stewart) Agoos, Linda (Billy) Brener, Joyce (Wayne) Goodowitz, and Janice Eisenberg. She is also survived by step-daughter Ann Rochelle (Dennis Rodgers) Kahn , step-son Michael B. (Karen) Goodman, and step-daughter-in-law Diane Goodman. Mary adored her grandchildren: Brian Goodowitz, Amy (Steve) Levin, Erin (Dan) Lantz, and Elyse Eisenberg. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Sara Goldgar Cohen, and many beloved nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Mary graduated from Forest Avenue High School. She was proud of her Dallas roots and life-long membership at Congregation Shearith Israel and her life-time membership in Hadassah. Throughout her 94 years, Mary was a living example of goodness, honesty, kindness, optimism, unselfishness and most of all unconditional love. The family extends sincere thanks to her caring and compassionate caregivers: Martina Ramirez, Angel Unfred, Sona Gama, & Louise McCoy. A special and loving thanks to her nephew, Dr. Martin B. Cohen, for his compassionate and loving care. The family warmly thanks the staff and many friends at The Classic Residence who enriched the last 8 years of Mary’s life. Services for Mary will be conducted by Rabbi David Glickman at Congregation Shearith Israel, 9401 Douglas Ave., Dallas, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday July 11, 2010. Interment will follow at Shearith Israel Cemetery on Dolphin Road in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Shearith Israel, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, or a charity of choice.
