She married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Delaney, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown on October 10, 1964. They spent 15 years in Baltimore, Maryland, before Dick’s career as an attorney with Exxon took the family to Houston, Texas, in 1983. After 37 years in the Champions area, she and Dick moved to Dallas, Texas, in May of this year to be closer to their son, Michael.
Coming from a devout Catholic family, Mary’s faith was a guiding force in her life. Both she and Dick were active members of Prince of Peace Catholic Community in Houston, serving in various roles throughout the years. Their philanthropy extended to many organizations supporting those less fortunate, medical research and academic institutions. She was also an active member of the neighborhood Woman’s Club, serving as President at one time. For many years she enjoyed playing tennis at the local tennis club. She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting family dinners, especially at the holidays. Intelligent, abreast of current events and, until her last breath, Mary had an excellent memory, telling stories with precise detail.
Together, Mary and Dick loved to travel. During their marriage they visited places near and far throughout the Unites States, Canada, Europe and Asia, bringing keepsakes home as remembrances.
During a happy 57 years of marriage, Mary and Dick were devoted to each other and their two sons, Kevin Joseph, from Denver, and Michael Padraic, from Dallas.
Mary was the oldest of five children in a close-knit Irish family and loved everything Irish, from music and dancing to the Irish countryside. She was so proud of her heritage. Talking about Ireland brought a sparkle to her eyes and brought out her beautiful smile.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Dick, her sons Kevin and Michael, sister Peggy Whitty of Bethesda, MD, her cousin Sister Mary Louise Full, FSC, and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Jimmy, Rita and Eddie McCann. All of whom she loved and touched deeply.
