Mary Cobb Cole

Mary Adelyn (Cobb) Cole, 101, of Dallas went home to Jesus on November 14, 2021, after a brief illness. Mary was born in Douglas, Wyoming ,April 20, 1920, and spent her early childhood years with her two sisters in Iola, Texas, until her father's untimely death in 1930. The balance of her youth was spent in Houston, living with her sisters and mother and two uncles near downtown Houston.

She graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Business Education and worked at the University of Houston. In 1943, she married James W. Cole, Jr. in Baltimore, MD, where he was stationed in the Army during WWII. After the war, Mary and Jay lived in Houston, Fort Worth and Odessa, before retiring to Linden, Texas, in 1977. Mary was a volunteer at the local hospital and nursing home and was active in the garden club. Mary moved to Dallas following Jay's passing in 2011, living independently until the COVID epidemic, when she moved into her daughter and son-in-law's home, to their great delight.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Emma Tucker Cobb and Charles Clifton Cobb, sister Wyoma Chaffin (Virgil), Son Charles Thurmond Cole, and her beloved husband Jay.

She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Cole Jones (Chris) of Dallas, sister Emma Jean Dumas

(Harrell, deceased) of Port O'Connor, grandchildren Benjamin Cole Jones (Johannah Miller) of Kansas City, MO, and Katelyn Jones (Eike Rapelius) of Munich, Germany. In addition, she leaves beloved nieces and nephews Jerry, Cecil (Mary Ann), Susan, John, Clayton and many friends.

Mary taught 4th grade Sunday School for many years at Baptist Churches in Fort Worth, Odessa and Linden, as well as adult women at FBC Linden until she moved to Dallas. She was a

member of First Baptist Church, Linden, at the time of her passing.

Mary delighted in serving God, but she did it in such a way that most didn't know about it. She was a quiet, dignified and funny lady who loved life, her church, Wheel of Fortune, crosswords, mystery novels and Hallmark movies. If you knew Mary, you could count on being entertained by her tales of mischief as a child, stories of the 'good old days', and of the many successes of her children and grandchildren. She loved with a pure heart and a clear conscience.
