The fourteenth of fifteen children, Marvin Grealy Edwards was born on March 9, 1941 to A. Wilford and Addie Earnestine Myers Edwards in Streetman, Tx. He was proceeded in death by both parents, five sisters and five brothers.
Having attended the J.O. Davis School of Irving, TX, and Marvin graduated as class valedictorian from the Dalworth High School in Grand Prairie, TX.
In 1964, he earned a BA degree from Jarvis Christian College. While attending Jarvis College in Hawkins, Tx, he was a member of the college choir and organized a male singing group that performed at local talent shows. He was selected as a member of Who’s Who in American colleges and Universities.
It was at Jarvis that he met, then married the love of his life, Mary Helen Bailey. They were blessed with a marriage of fifty-four years. To this union, one son, Kelvin Gerard Edwards was born.
In 1971, Marvin earned a master’s of science degree, and in 1975, he earned masters of administration and supervision at East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University) in Commerce, Tx. Marvin was an employee of the D.I.S.D for thirty-one years. He taught English and later became an assistant principal at Woodrow High School and Sunset High School.
Marvin accepted Christ in his life at an early age and joined the New Home Baptist Church in Irving, Tax. He later joined the Potter’s House in Dallas, Tx, where he was a faithful member and tither. He attended Man Power conferences and Mega-Fest.
Marvin is survived by his wife; Mary; son; Kelvin (Terri); grand-daughter, Tiara S. Edwards; great grand-daughter; Samarah S. Edwards; sisters, Ruby Sweat, Mary Williams (Marvin’s twin) and Gloria Banks. One brother, Mance Edwards; sisters- in law, Alice Giddings and Debbie Stubbs; one brother-in-law, Larry Bailey (Peggy); and a host of nieces and nephews.
