Martha was born January 3, 1934, to Albert and Dorothy Halsell. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, she attended Highland Park High School and Southern Methodist University. Martha taught for more than 20 years in Richardson, Texas, retiring to move to London, England, with her husband Rudy.
Her proudest accomplishment was being a loving wife, mother and “Grammy”. Martha never met a stranger and brought great joy to all those around her. She was lovingly referred to as the “Queen Mother” by her family, she truly was showing us her grace, beauty, wit and wisdom even in her final days. She will be forever missed. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rudy and daughter Georgeann “Gigi” Hawes. She is survived by her daughters Kelly Hedric (Andy), Dee Dee Collins (Alan), Lyn Hendrex (Brent), son Bruk Schenken (Kathy), grandchildren Kate and Will McCaddon, Hunter, Sam, David, and Martha Collins, Katie and Jack Schafer, Jenny and Bradley Schenken and Charles and Steven McCann.
Her family extends a special gratitude to caregivers Kristin, Becky and Toni; also Charlin Hospice for taking such good care of her. A memorial service will be held September 8th at 2:00 pm at the Church of the Holy Communion in Dallas (17405 Muirfield Dr, Dallas, TX, 75287). Memorials may be made in her honor to the Church of the Holy Communion, the Dallas Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
