Martha Harriet Cox was born in Ferris, Texas, October 22, 1919, to her parents William Andrew Cox and Effie Russell Cox. She is proceeded in death by her father, William Andrew Cox; mother, Effie Russell Cox; and her brothers, William Frank Cox and Edward Russell Cox.
Martha was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in Illinois, where she was a Phi Kappa Lambda. She studied and taught at many schools, including University of Illinois School of Music, Northwestern University College of Music and University of Colorado.
Martha was a beautiful Soprano singer and she performed on many stages. She went on to become a music teacher, where she taught many students the love of music. She loved animals and was an Animal Rights Activist. She started numerous animal organizations such as APANT. She won many awards in her love and fight for animal rights. The last award she won was in 2015 - she won the Humanitarian Award from the Texas Human Legislation Network.
Martha Cox went to be with her Lord, Monday, September 26, 2022, at 1:02 p.m. at 102 years old, at her home in Dallas, Texas, with her long-time trusted friend Barbie Ragland, who had the honor of holding her sweet hand as she passed. Martha did not fear death, because God was truly her friend.
Martha will be laid to rest at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home & Hillcrest Mausoleum & Memorial Park at 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, Texas ,75225, next to her best friend Harriet McDonald. Her service will be graveside Friday, October 7, at 1:00 Sparkman/Hillcrest.
