Mark Steven Whittington, 60, of Dallas passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 following a valiant battle with melanoma. He will always be remembered for his humor and as a loving and generous man to all who knew and loved him.
Mark was born in Wood River, Illinois on March 7, 1956 to Verle and Pauline Whittington. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and was a Certified Public Accountant. Mark was a member of the Corinthian Sailing Club and The Knights of Columbus.
Mark enjoyed the simple pleasures in life; he loved cooking, grilling and making bread. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading about history. He enjoyed spending summer days with a glass of wine listening to NPR on his deck, he loved to travel and enjoyed riding his bike and walking at White Rock Lake.
Mark is survived by his wife Virginia of Dallas, Texas; his mother, Pauline Whittington; sisters Carol Whittington of Conroe, Texas and Kathleen Whittington of St Petersburg, Florida; brothers Michael Whittington of Dallas and John Whittington of College Station, Texas. Mark is also survived by his nephews Daniel Roberts, Evin Whittington, Eric Whittington, Weston Williams, Chris Hayes and nieces Renee Williams, Megan Neal, Lauren Neal and Caroline Neal.
Mark is also survived by father-in-law Roberto Arredondo, who Mark loved like a father and helped care for Mark in the last year of his life. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Anna Arredondo, sisters-in-law Patricia Arredondo, Rebecca Arredondo, Cecilia Arredondo and Teresa Neal, and brother-in-law Bryan Neal. Mark was preceded in death by his father Verle Whittington, his brother Edd James Whittington, and nephew David Hayes.
Services will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood Ave., Dallas, TX 75214. A rosary will be held at 10:30 am followed by funeral mass at 11:00 am on Friday, March 10, 2017. A reception will be held following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School or St Vincent de Paul.
