Long-time Dallasite, Marion Johnston Fischer, 64, passed away on Thursday, May 29 2014, at her residence in Dallas. She will be affectionately remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to all who knew and loved her.
Marion was born in Sebring, FL on July 20, 1949 to Bobbie Lee and Lola Johnston. She lived in several different places growing up, including the UK and Tokyo, Japan. She moved to Dallas with her parents as a pre-teen, and this was where she planted her roots and spent the rest of her life. Marion loved to travel, especially to Central and South America, but there really was "no place like home" for her. She met her husband, MIchael Wayne Fischer, who preceded her in death in 2002, while still in high school. Together, they had two sons, Elliot and Erik, who they loved and treasured. Marion found endless pride, pleasure and amusement in her two sons, and shared a closeness with both of them that is beyond measure. She also bonded with many of their friends, and more than once, those friends called her house, "home."
Marion was a born-again Christian and gave of herself in many ways. In addition to her treasured role of being a mom, Marion worked many years as a public servant for the Highland Park and Carrollton Police Departments. After retiring, Marion found new life when she became active in her church. For the last 10 years, she happily and enthusiastically devoted much time and energy to Hillcrest Church and, subsequently, Mill Valley Fellowship and its related activities. Marion was a gifted artist, and in addition to drawing, painting and sketching, she could and did create beautiful pieces of jewelry that she simply gave away to friends and relatives because it made her happy to make others happy. Marion could also knit anything in any style and made countless blankets, scarves, sweaters and hats, to name just a few, that on several occasions, she took to homeless shelters and gave away. She lived a selfless life and did her very best to be a humble servant of God. All who knew her would agree that she was successful in that endeavor.
Survivors include her sons, Elliot Fischer and Erik Fischer, her mother, Lola Johnston, her sister Judy Peters (Rod), her brother-in-law, Kenneth Fischer, her nieces, Terri Fischer Young, Debbie Fischer Dobblebower and Caroline Peters, and great nieces, Sinclair FDobblebower and Loren Woodall, and a multitude of cousins and friends. In addition to her husband, Michael, she was preceded in death by her father in 1992.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy. Dallas, TX, 75225. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com.
