After courageously fighting cancer, Marilyn LaVonne Paul, age 85, passed away peacefully June 5, 2020. She was born April 6, 1935 in Wisner Nebraska to Merlin and Catherine Wehrer. Marilyn was a faithful Catholic and a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas. She married her world adventure partner Lyle Richard Paul on October 13, 1956.
Marilyn was an amazing practical joker who was revered for her ability to pull an April Fool’s joke even to the most suspecting friend. Her love was so abundant, she gathered the most interesting cadre of friends from every corner of the globe. She was most proud of raising her large family of seven children, Kathryn, Michael, John, Betsy, Joseph, Sam and Molly.
Born on a farm in Cuming County Nebraska, Marilyn was married in Omaha and set off to Texas, Oklahoma, New York, Hong Kong and back to her beloved Texas. She was an avid sports fan who never shied away from a good rivalry, especially if it involved arch-rivals of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees.
She was a voracious reader and writer of short stories. Her later years were exciting as she shared her skills of living life fully with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She did this by celebrating major religious and civic holidays, life’s events, important as well as quirky from lunar landings to Martha Stewart’s release.
She is survived by her lifetime love, Lyle Paul, her seven children, thirteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, brothers Larry Wehrer and Duane Wehrer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marilyn’s beloved Loyola School, 980 Park Avenue, New York, New York, 10028 or a charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.calvaryhilldallas.com for the Paul family.
