Marilee was born in Dallas, Texas on July 21, 1927, and adopted three months later by Otis and Gladys Floyd. As a child she attended public schools in Dallas, Denison, and Waco, but as an adult she made her home in Dallas. In 1946 she married Harold Payne and started a family. Son John was born in 1949 and daughter Jerry, in 1951.
Marilee worked for Lone Star Gas Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1982, when she began to travel around Texas with her husband in a 5th wheel camper, enjoying camping with friends. After Harold died in 1984, Marilee met and married another camping enthusiast, Glenn Hughes, in 1988 and moved to Midlothian. When she was widowed again in 2001, Marilee moved closer to her children in Sachse and North Richland Hills, and then in Wylie until her death.
She is survived by son John Michael Payne and daughter-in-law Barbara Taylor Payne; granddaughter Shannon Kelli Scott Coney, grandson-in-law Harland Andre Coney and great-granddaughter Andrea Shanel Coney; grandson Matthew Lloyd Scott and great-grandsons Matthew Lloyd Scott II and Isaiah Marleon Scott.
She was preceded in death by husbands Harold Lloyd Payne and Glenn Harold Hughes, and daughter Jerry Lynne Payne Scott.
At Marilee’s request and due to the current global health concerns, rather than the traditional visitation and funeral service, there’ll be a simple, private graveside gathering of immediate family at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas.
