After a very brief marriage, her parents divorced. Her mother then married James O. Fitts who adopted Margaret and was the only father she really knew. Her mother was a Registered Nurse. Mr. Fitts was active-duty Army for 30 years rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Margaret’s parents were hard-working, patriotic, practical people with a strong faith. They transmitted these values to their oldest daughter Margaret.
As an army “brat” Margaret lived in Alaska, Virginia, Colorado, Texas, Arkansas, France, Germany, Alabama, and California (twice). She married Jerry Wright in 1962. They had one son, JW Wright. Margaret and Jerry divorced after 26 years. She later moved to Dallas where she worked for CUNA Mutual.
Through her work, she met Ross Irvin who admired her stunning good looks, faith, generosity, and ability to win the hearts of friends. They married on January 15, 2000. It was always easy to remember how many years they were married.
At CUNA Mutual Margaret made a vast number of friends in the credit union industry. Her technical expertise, hard work, and practicality of purpose enabled her even after her retirement, to serve as interim credit union president on two occasions. Margaret was a dedicated businesswoman as well as creative and talented in home decor and arts and crafts.
Margaret was a model of service to her Catholic faith. She was active in Catholic Pro-Life, served as a chair for the “Why Catholic program,” and became a faith formation teacher. She also worked as a volunteer in the church office as a safe environment confirmation assistant.
Margaret died November 24, 2023, from complications from a tragic car accident on Thanksgiving Day with a car backing down the Dallas Tollway against traffic.
Margaret is survived by her husband Ross, her son JW Wright, daughter-in-law Andrea Wright, granddaughter Kenzie Wright, her sisters Priscilla Tebbetts and Jeanne Jones, as well as a brother, Jim Fitts. Margaret who touched the lives of so many, has now come home.
