Margaret was born in New Mexico, but moved to Weatherford, Texas at a very young age, and lived the majority of her life in and around the DFW area. She met Truman in 1943 and it was love at first sight. They married on July 26, 1945 when Margaret was the ripe old age of 16, shortly after graduating high school one year early.
1947 was a momentous year for her with the birth of their first daughter, Nita and husband, Truman surrending to the ministry. In 1950, Truman pastored his first church with Margaret at his side. Together they served in the capacity of Pastor and Pastor’s wife for 43 years in six different churches including Eastland, Hobbs New Mexico, Stephenville, Handley, Dallas and Mesquite.
Together, she and Truman had three daughters, Nita, Deborah & Rebecca and they adored all three, and always put family first. Margaret was a self-taught pianist and organist and enjoyed playing both in church through the years. She loved children, teaching Sunday School for decades and worked in many private Christian Schools and Mother’s Day Out programs.
Another of her hobbies was showering her love upon her grandchildren. She considered herself a second mother to them all. As they grew and had kids, she showed the same affection to each of her great-grandchildren and was proud to eventually have two great-great-grandchildren. She was the best MaMaw they world has ever known!
Everyone who knew Margaret knew she was caring, loving, hospitable, enjoyed cooking and giving opinionated advice! She will be missed as a mother, Mamaw, teacher, church family member, neighbor, life coach, and friend. Margaret was a member of The Journey Church of Fort Worth and was officially adopted as the church-wide grandmother, affectionately known to them all as “Mamaw”.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Brooks and Annie Coalson of Weatherford, TX; husband, Truman Gavin Walker of Mesquite, TX; brothers, Kenneth Coalson of Victoria, TX, and J.B. Coalson of Weatherford, TX; and daughter, Rebecca Knight of Dallas, TX.
She is survived by her daughters, Nita Foster and husband Ernie of Ft. Worth, TX, and Deborah Rogers and husband Terry of Weatherford, TX; sister, Mary Evelyn Baldwin and husband Gerald of Weatherford, TX; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
