Viola "Sis" Jernigan of Desoto, Texas, Born August 10, 1920 in Cleburne, Texas. Passed away May 31, 2017. Survived by nieces Leola (Bud) Mosso, Sandra Duncan, Linda Goins, and several great-nieces and nephews. Also, survived by her best friend Virginia Collins and her children, Brenda Carter and husband Eddy and Allen Calvery and wife Linda as well as, Virginia’s nine grandchildren. Proceeded in death by her husband Douglas Spencer Jernigan; parents William Franklin Anderson and Maggie Brown Anderson; and siblings Mae Anderson, Jack Anderson, Walter Anderson, Remur Anderson, Marvin Anderson, Opal Anderson, Lissie Anderson Clark, and Agnes Anderson Shockley.
Viola graduated from Carrollton High School in the late 1930’s. Viola married Douglas Spencer Jernigan in 1947. Viola and Doug had 44 wonderful years together enjoying friends, family, church, square dancing and many hobbies. Viola had a life-time career with Southwestern Bell in Dallas, Texas beginning in the 1940’s and retiring in the early 1980’s. For most of her years with SWB Viola was an operator at the SWB building at 9th and Zangs in Oak Cliff. Viola loved to eat out with family and friends. Bringing Viola a Whataburger hamburger or a bag of Tootsie Rolls always brought a big smile to her face. Viola was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to SPCA International, P.O. Box 8682 New York, NY 10001.
