Madeline Hutsell Boedeker, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home February 19, 2016 with her loving daughter Charlotte by her side. Born in Dallas on August 18, 1922, Madeline was one of three children of famed architect C.D. Hutsell and wife Susie Florence Hutsell. One of the longest tenured Lakewood residents, Madeline moved to the neighborhood when she was five years old and later graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She was married to F.W. “Billy” Boedeker until his death in 1979.
Billy served as a paratrooper during World War II, and her husband’s sacrifice during the war effort engendered a zealous patriotism that Madeline held throughout her life. She was a lifelong Republican and served as an officer for the Republican Women’s Club. She also volunteered at a polling station for every election that her health permitted.
Madeline’s father passed along his love of real estate to her, and she spent many years as a realtor in Lakewood, primarily for the Dick Clements Group where she won numerous awards. She was an avid Dallas and Lakewood historian, often contributing as a guest lecturer for Preservation Dallas and the Dallas Historical Society. She participated in the annual Lakewood Home Tour, where her father’s homes are often showcased. Madeline and Billy were also former members of both Dallas Country Club and Lakewood Country Club.
Madeline was the epitome of grace in how she carried herself and how she treated those close to her. She was fiercely loyal and supportive of her family. Known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “BoBo”, Madeline sat through numerous tee ball games and recitals in her later life. She never missed a chance to celebrate the accomplishments of those around her. We will live forever changed by her legacy, but find comfort in knowing she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and has been reunited with her husband and her dear son, Bill.
In addition to her beloved Billy, Madeline is predeceased by her parents, her brother Arlie and wife Judy, her sister Lucille Rea and husband Edward, and her son F.W. “Bill” Boedeker. She is survived by her daughter Charlotte Walters; daughter-in-law Laura “Lollie” Boedeker; and by her grandchildren Andy Boedeker and wife Dena; Charlotte Goodrich and husband David; Jennifer Elmore and husband David; Jack Walters and wife Lisa; Nathan Walters and wife Katie; Meredith Cole and husband Tim; Will Walters and wife Kate; Neddy Dommer; Seeley Woolsey; Nathan Dicker and wife Kate; and by her 24 cherished great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest. The celebration of BoBo’s life will be held at 3:00 on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Fellowship Bible Church, 9330 North Central Expressway, Dallas, Texas 75231 (behind the Bed Bath & Beyond on Park Lane).
