Louis Vela Jr., a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather was born in Yorktown, Texas on November 22, 1944, to Juanita and Luis Vela. He was the 5th of 8 children. Louis volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1966 and was stationed at Fort McClennan, Alabama before being deployed to Vietnam in 1968. After returning from Vietnam, Louis married his wife Mary on October 14, 1972, in Dallas, Texas. Five years later, Vincent Van Vela was born in 1977. Louis went on to work at the United States Postal Service in 1979, serving 34 years. While at the Postal Service, Louis worked as a Postal Clerk, Tour Supervisor, and Business Agent of the American Postal Workers Union, ultimately finishing his career in Labor Relations at the Main Post Office in Dallas. Louis and Mary welcomed granddaughters Briana in 1995, Alyssa in 2001 and Alexandria in 2012. They recently celebrated 50 happy years of Marriage in October of 2022. Louis is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ismael Vela and sister Lydia Hughes. Those to cherish his memory are his wife; son, Vincent and Veronica Vela; brothers, Israel “Ray” Vela, Raul “Rudy” and Linda Vela, Gilbert and Edith Vela, Eugenio “Gene” and Mary Vela; sister, Angie Fuentes and grandchildren, Briana, Alyssa and Alexandria Vela as well as many nieces and nephews.
