Lois “Bunny” Bacon Thomsen passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s on Tuesday, March 17, 2021. Bunny was born in Abilene, Texas, to Mac Bacon and Alice Fender Bacon on October 23, 1929. She attended Bradfield School and Highland Park High School, where she was a cheerleader and voted class favorite by her peers. She attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri, and the University of Texas in Austin, where she studied Interior Design and Architectural Engineering. Bunny was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After college, she worked at Mobil Oil Company and for Dr Pepper.
In 1954 she married Fred V. Luhnow, Jr. and they adopted two children, Elizabeth Anne Luhnow Pettit and William Christian Luhnow. Bunny then began her career in Interior Design, founding Lois Luhnow Interiors. Her mentor was her uncle, Wilson McClure, an outstanding architect who would take her on his job sites as a young girl. Bunny has finished the interiors of some of the most beautiful homes in Dallas and other parts of Texas.
Bunny was a gal of many talents. She loved to sing and dance, she was an excellent skier and loved to play tennis. She spent a lot of time in Aspen with friends and family. She was very interested in Republican politics, attending the Republican National Convention in San Francisco, California, when Barry Goldwater ran for President.
Bunny was a member of the Dallas Junior League, Dallas Dinner Dance Club, Book and Drama Review Club, Dallas Country Club, Dallas Women’s Club and Dallas Ski Club. She was ball chair for the United Cerebral Palsy organization and a member of St. Michael and All Angels Church.
In 1999, she married her true love Carl J.” Tommy” Thomsen and they travelled the world together and had a ball! They loved to just have fun! Bunny and Tommy completed each other. They had a lovely home in Palm Springs, California, and were members of Eldorado Country Club. Upon her passing, it was said that Bunny is “dancing the night away with Tommy”. It is also said that Bunny never met a stranger. She was beloved by family, friends and business associates as friendly, outgoing, sweet and full of spunk.
Bunny is survived by her two children, Elizabeth Anne Luhnow Pettit and William Christian Luhnow (Chris). She is also survived by grandchildren Victoria Anne Furr, husband Zachary Furr and their daughter Robin; Jennifer Luhnow, Jillian Luhnow Wooten and family, Jordan Christian Luhnow and Katrina Sidwell.
She is also survived by Martha Blair, The Thomsen’s personal assistant for over 40 years. Martha's presence was a true blessing following Tommy's death and beyond. She has served to navigate Bunny through her most difficult years with patience, dignity and respect. Martha's support of Bunny in these times has proved to be a great comfort and relief for the family. Martha is very dear to our hearts.
Bunny was predeceased by her beloved husband, Carl J. Thomsen (Tommy) and their treasured dogs Millie, Vanna, Westy (all three West Highland White Terriers), and Dolly (Yorkshire Terrier).
A private burial service will be held at Restland Cemetery on Friday, March 26, at 1:00. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s research in hopes that one day a cure may be found.
